New homes “very much a part of the local community”

May 25, 2011

Councillor Janette Duke, Chair of New Milton Town Council formally opened Ability’s latest housing development in New Milton by saying that Ability and its tenants were “very much a part of the local community”.

Tenants at Cedar Place, New Milton gathered with their families and invited guests this week to celebrate the official opening of their new homes.

Councillor Duke welcomed visitors to the development, commenting on its appealing design and spacious layout.

One of the tenants cut the ribbon to mark the opening and another gave a brief speech saying how much he was enjoying living more independently in his lovely new flat.

Cedar Place was built to provide supported housing for people with learning difficulties and mental health issues living in the New Milton area. The development has two blocks each of six self-contained flats with a mix of one or two bedrooms.

Tenants each receive an individual support that is tailored to their needs and designed to promote increasing levels of independence.

David Williams, Ability Chief Executive said “the striking features of this development are the very high quality of the living environment and the way in which it has been designed to fit seamlessly into the local community. It has been a great success thanks to very effective partnership working between Ability, Pennyfarthing Homes, New Forest District Council and Hampshire County Council.”

The development was completed nearly 3 months ahead of schedule. Consultants on the development project were Baqus Denley King. Capital funding for the development was provided by the Homes & Communities Agency and Ability, while support services to tenants are funded by Hampshire Supporting People.
