Ability passes the 500 milestone!

7/01/2010

Ability has reached the milestone of 500 homes with the acquisition from Sovereign Housing Group of 24 new homes in Swindon.

The 24 homes at East Wichelstowe, Swindon, are the first to be developed by Ability in Swindon since being selected by Swindon Council as a preferred development partner in 2009. Part of an extensive new development of over 4000 homes, schools and shops on the outskirts of Swindon, the flats were built in partnership with Sovereign Housing Group, through the Sovereign Development Consortium.

The 24 flats, including 5 for wheelchair use, will provide supported housing for a range of people with identified housing needs including people with learning disabilities and single homeless people moving on from hostels and temporary accommodation.

Ability and Sovereign have been working as partners through the Sovereign Development Consortium (SDC) since 2005.

Lindy Morgan, Director of the Sovereign Development Consortium commented: “‘Providing new supported housing is an arduous development journey but through linking experienced developing RSLs with specialist providers in the Sovereign Development Consortium we have been able to create more opportunities for increased provision.”

Steven Hurrell, Partnership and Development Director at Ability said: ”The completion of this development marks several significant milestones for Ability – passing 500 units in management, completing our first joint development with Sovereign Housing Group and providing our first homes in Swindon. We are delighted the partnership is proving effective at improving housing opportunities for people who want to live more independently.”
