Landmark supported housing agreement

6/01/2010

Ability is one of nine housing organisations that have signed a landmark agreement with West Sussex County Council to provide supported housing.

Ability is now a member of the West Sussex Supported Housing Partnership, which comprises nine housing organisations set up to work in partnership with the council to provide accommodation for vulnerable people.

The partnership has been set up to work with the County Council as part of its five-year Accommodation Strategy, to increase both the quality and quantity of supported housing accommodation.

Cabinet Member for Adults’ Services Peter Catchpole explained: “We provide supported housing for many of our more vulnerable residents, including people suffering with a disability, adults with learning difficulties, older people and young care leavers.

“The partnership will enable us to tap into our housing providers’ expertise, and to support our aim of increasing our high quality and cost effective supported housing in West Sussex.”

Providers will work with the Council to identify opportunities for supported housing, both on Council owned and privately owned land, within future developments and by remodelling existing buildings.

Ability’s Partnership and Development Director Steven Hurrell said: “We are delighted to have been selected for this partnership. We already provide housing and support in West Sussex and we look forward now to working with the Council and the other partners to deliver even more high quality housing for people who want to live more independently”.
