More ‘moving-on’ opportunities in Farnham

9/10/2009

Three more people will have the opportunity to live independently in Farnham thanks to another Ability development in the Surrey town.

Ability is currently building three new flats, which are expected to be complete and ready for occupation in January 2010. Two of the flats will be occupied by people with learning disabilities who are moving-on from Ability’s short-stay supported housing project at Cavell House, in Farnham. The third flat, on the ground floor, is specially designed for wheelchair use. It will be let to a waiting list nominee of Waverley Borough Council.

The development is being undertaken in partnership with Waverley Borough Council, who provided land for the development. Part of the funding for the scheme has been provided by the Homes and Communities Agency through the Sovereign Development Consortium, of which Ability is a member.

Steven Hurrell, Partnerships and Development Director said “we give a high priority to developing ‘move-on’ housing so that our tenants who want to live more independently can do so and this also releases our existing supported housing for other people who need a more supported environment. This way we ensure we make the best use of the available public funding and are able to offer a wider range of housing choices to our customers.”
