Partnership Brings New Homes to Swindon

7/07/2008

The latest product of Ability's successful partnership with Sovereign Housing Group will be 24 new homes in Swindon for people who need specialist or supported housing.

The new homes will form part of a major housing development at Wichelstowe resulting from a collaboration between the two land owners, Swindon Borough Council and house-builder Taylor Wimpey together with Sovereign Housing Group.

The development, to be completed in three phases, will comprise an entire community, including shared ownership, rented and owner occupied homes plus community facilities. Sovereign Housing Group will provide approximately 230 affordable homes, including 24 that will provide supported housing to be owned and managed by Ability.

Building work has already begun and the first homes will be completed by December 2008. The supported homes will be distributed around the development and will be let to people with a range of support needs, including wheelchair users, people with learning disabilities and single people who have been homeless.

The is the first major partnership between Ability and Sovereign Housing Group Ltd, which is the parent organisation to subsidiaries Sovereign Housing Association, Twynham Housing Association and The Vale Housing Association.

Ability Chief Executive, David Williams, said, “this is a very exciting project for Ability. Working in partnership with large developers enables us to provide specialist housing that is truly integrated within a balanced and mixed community. We are positive that this partnership with Sovereign will be the first of many successful ventures.”
