Annual Strategy Day A Great Success

On Wednesday 25th June 2008, Ability board members met with staff and customer representatives to discuss ideas for a new long term business plan for Ability. At the end of the day, board members hailed the day as a great success and felt that the involvement of staff and customer representatives had really helped them to focus and to prioritise the issues and aspirations that matter most.

The day was based around two main themes, “Putting People First” and “Aiming Higher”. After a presentation by our Chief Executive, David Williams, everybody was invited to think about what they would like Ability to look like in five years time through the eyes of our most important people. Although there were many different views expressed there was a consensus that:

Our Customers will see:

· More choice of housing options and better quality
· A wider range, more choice and more flexible services
· Services that reach more people throughout the South of England

· More personalised services, less labelling
· The Ability brand will be synonymous with our values and positive attitudes

Our Workforce will see:

· More choice of working patterns
· More opportunity for personal growth and development
· Higher expectations and a broader range of competencies
· More use of information and communication technologies
· They will be regarded as professionals and be proud to work for Ability

Our Partners will see:

· Ability contributing more and being an even more effective partner
· We will have an excellent reputation amongst our partners
. We will be seen by our partners as a leader and a mentor
· Our communication and influence will be broad rather than narrow
