First Choice for Surrey County Council

1/04/2008

Ability today took over the operation of two services in Surrey that provide housing and support to people with long-term mental health issues.

Ability was selected by Surrey Supporting People and Surrey and Borders NHS Trust following a tendering exercise last autumn.

The two services, in Woking and Staines, provide supported living for a total of 18 individuals with long term mental health issues.

As part of the contract for the delivery of services by Ability a number of staff previously employed by Surrey County Council have now transferred to Ability.

Tenants at the services will receive intensive support to prepare for independent living and will be expected to move on to permanent accommodation within two years on average.

Ability Chief Executive, David Williams, said, “since diversifying into mental health services some 6 years ago, Ability has established an enviable and unparalleled track record of success in delivering service improvement and enabling service users to live independently. This is in no small part due to the expertise and dedication of our mental health services team.

"We are delighted that Surrey County Council has recognised our unique offer. We look forward to working with colleagues in Surrey and in particular we welcome the staff who have transferred with the service. We hope that they will enjoy working with us."
