Mason Close opening ceremony

16/10/2007

October 16th 2007 saw the opening of our latest new-build housing development at Mason Close in Waltham Abbey. The scheme provides supported living for five disabled people in one-bedroom bungalows designed to full wheelchair standard.

The event provided a wonderful platform to promote everything positive that Ability stands for. Good design, effective partnership working, promoting independence and creating sustainable communities. The occasion was well attended by our partners in the scheme, Epping Forest District Council.

Former scrubland has been turned into a development of high quality bungalows designed specifically to meet the needs of wheelchair users. The high specification units have level access throughout and 1500mm turning space for a wheelchair in every room. Everything is designed to ensure that the new tenants can live independently with a minimum of care and support.

Ability Chief Executive David Williams said “It’s not been an easy site to develop, but the goodwill and determination of our staff and officers at the council has seen us through. The end result justifies all the effort.”

Councillor David Stallan, Housing Portfolio Holder at Epping Forest District Council says: “Not only does this attractive housing development provide much needed homes for local disabled people, but it has improved the local environment by turning an unsightly wooded area, that was frequently used for fly-tipping, into a pleasant little community”.
